Darren Pollard, originally from Detroit, Michigan, moved to Chicago, Illinois at the age of 18,, where he purchased his first professional camera for fifty dollars from a classmate. Having a “real” camera created a passion for photography, and he soon found himself developing a keen awareness of both symmetry and its absence in the city.
In 2002, Pollard moved to the San Francisco Bay Area, where he worked as a photography instructor at Contra Costa Community College and as a photography curator at the Joyce Gordon Gallery in Oakland, California.
Returning to Chicago in 2008, Pollard began creating non-objective paintings and collages, eventually affiliating with Gallery Guichard as an artist. Since the gallery partnership, Pollard has participated in numerous exhibitions and his work has been placed in several private collections across the United States.
In 2018, Pollard relocated to Harlem, where he focused on developing his artistic process.
After the tragic loss of his beloved son, Isaiah, Pollard returned to Detroit in 2024, where he now resides and continues to work on his art.
